Our Wines

About us

"Ex-Cellar" - To buy your wine directly from the wine maker.

The term 'Ex Cellar' lends itself to embody the direct relationship between the wine buyer and the small wine producer - cutting out the middle man and the large, corporate wine-producing suppliers that appear to be flooding the market with often bland, average style wine.

It is against this backdrop that Ex Cellar has been formed. As  seasoned wine retailers, we are passionate about offering customers the best possible wine, at the best possible price. We sense that many people have become bored with the current high street wine offering. We understand that many people are confused by the plethora of wine available in the UK and we want to connect with our customers, offering quality and price in a way that they will find easy and informative to use. Hence we offer Ex Cellar.

At your service are:

Simon Baile, Managing Director, simon@excellar.co.uk

Simon - From the family that brought you Oddbins, he has been in the trade since birth, and bleeds wine, not blood. Used as slave labour from the age of 13 in the Oddbins shops during the holidays, he started his own business straight from college in 1992. With a passion for the wines of the world made by the lesser well known, and a love of serving the consumer with these delights, he has built this business with these influences in mind.

With a Mother who ran Islington's best delicatessen in the 1970's, it is no surprise that he is now including good quality food into his stores.

Stuart Cole, Paris Business Manager, paris@excellar.co.uk

Stuart - An Englishman who has been selling wine to the French for the last 30 years, Stuart is now the corner stone of the 5th arrondissement in Paris. With a passion for wine, and a well honed palate, many people in Paris travel to our store to talk about what really matters in life and in wine!

Stephen Arnold, Ashtead Business Manager, stephen@excellar.co.uk

Stephen - The fountain of all knowledge and our oracle. A classic's teacher who discovered a love of wine whilst travelling to different parts of the world. Fluent in too many languages to mention, he has become an institution in Ashtead and is liked by customers for his knowledge, helpful advice and promptness of service.
